Testing pre programmed PICs in HP488

Hello,
I am thinking of buying a HP488 board but my main use would be to test the functionality of programs I had already loaded into my PIC via my programmer separate from the 488.
Assuming the jumpers are set correctly for my PIC is this possible or does the program have to be input via the HP488 ...
