Power Supply to Multiprogrammer

I am using the multiprogrammer, EB006-00-06, in conjunction with some additional components on a separate board which is being powered by a switch-mode plugtop power supply with an regulated DC output of 18 volts. Will it be OK to use this 18v supply to power the EB006 ?

Hello,
The main input capacitor on the EB006 board is rated at 16v. This is connected across the input voltage after it has passed through a bridge rectifier so an 18v input supply will probably cause it to operate too close to its operating limit (or possibly above). I would recommend some form of voltage limiting circuit before connecting to the EB006 board (between 8v and 15v).
A high input voltage also increases the heat disipation in the regulator.

Note: A supply voltage below 12v might affect the reliability of the normal high voltage programming operation, and would only be suitable when the LVP (Low Voltage Programming) option was being used.
