I have uninstalled and downloaded the full flowcode 4 from support website to try and fix the speech component problem.
but now the speech component in the drop down menu now appears as a seven segment display, there is no speech icon
visible. Any ideas what to do next. I need to get this working because it is used in the teaching laboratory.

Did you use any of the beta versions of Flowcode 4 by any chance?

The workspace fix restored the speech icon on the component drop down.

When I tried the example speech program in examples folder and added enable speech output it works.
But I noticed that the speech properties had a base address of 2520, the suggested base address was 77707. When I selected use suggested base address it does not work. Could this be the problem ? because I am using the suggested base address in my program.

Your query about the base address has been sent to the Flowcode technical team and they will let you know the outcome.

I added the new speech component to the components directory and restarted flowcode, but still get the same error loading speech macro.
