Hello Wayne

Using Floating point maths you can do the following.

milesperhour = meterpersecond / 0.44704

I calculated this by working out the following.

1 mile = 1609.344 meters

miles per second = meterspersecond / 1609.344

miles per minute = meterspersecond / (1609.344 / 60)

miles per hour = meterspersecond / ((1609.344 / 60) / 60)

if you can accept 1600 as an approximation for metres/mile, the calculation simplifies to:

1600/3600 = 4/9.
