USB cable not connected

Hi,
I have just, well about 2 weeksw ago reinstalled flow code 3 on my new netbook and whilst all appears to install and run ok, PPP constantly tells me that the USB cable or is not connected and when I attempt to confirgure the chip through flow code it tells me it can't id the chip and it assumes that i am using a ver 2 development board where as I am using the HP488 which i believe is a ver 3.

I looked at the FAQ and whilst one post did seem to have similar issues, I could not access the fix..

Any help would be appreciated.

Cheers

Hello Terry.
You can find drivers, Test files and data sheets etc from:
http://www.matrixmultimedia.com/eblock_datasheets.php

What I do is hold Ctrl key down & press f
That will open a search box, then just type in the box product your interested in.
After entering 488, it led to links for drivers etc:

Code: Select all

HP488-00-3 Development Board
USB Development Board datasheet
Circuit diagrams
USB Drivers
PPP Programming Software
Precompiled test files

Hello,

The last solution on this FAQ topic may be useful if you have previously installed the older version of the USB driver onto your computer.

Let me know how you get on.

Thanks for the advice but so far no go.
I have un insatalled Flow code V3 and I am concentrating on C4PICS.

There seems to be several issues here regarding the locating of the files such as PPP which may have something to do with the launch of these programs.

The device manager indicates that the HP488 is working properly.

The driver is 1.0.0.6 and as the update driver says there is no up date to this I tried running the latest driver package as you previously suggestred but this also told me there was no better driver available.

I cant auto detect the board since the USB link doesn't work. I have disabled the Power management feature.

Under the PIC Micro configuration slot 3 I have manually selected the Ver 3 board - incidently if the Ver 2 board is selected it looks for the LPT port of which there isn't one on my board.

With C4C running, if I if I attampt to launch Sourceboost I get an error from the matrix document launcher - could not open file;
C:\\program files\matrix multimedia\c4pics3\c4pics3\c\untitled.c3l

Before doing thisw I unstalled C4Pics al;so and cleaned out all refernces in the (regedit) register, shutdown, restarted and reinstalled C4PICS.

Where to from here?

Thanks

Hello,

I think there may be a problem with the C4PICs on new versions of Windows so I will get the person who knows about it to contact you on Monday.

Regarding your Flowcode problem. I think this could have been resolved by clicking Chip -> Configure -> Options and then changing the board type to a version 3 board using the Flowcode PPP slot 2.

If you choose to reinstall and have the same problem then it can be resolved as shown above.

Hello Terry,

is the computer you are trying to run C4PICs on 64 bit?

Hi Terry,

I can see that your chip instruction set is 64 bit but is your operating system 32bit or 64bit?

I am running XP ver 2002 Ser Pac 3 which from what I can gather is a 32 bit OS.

Hello Terry,

What browser are you using to load the course with? It may be an early version of internet explorer, if you are unsure about your browser you could always try the latest version of Firefox (a free browser) and try with that as the course should work fine with that.

I use both Firefox and MSIE and have tried both but no go from the comms point of view.

The software C4PICS appears to function ok however when I attempt to run an exercise by clicking on the link in C4PICS I get a message from the Matrix Document Launcher - "cannot open file C:/....../ex11.c3l

I can locate the file and open directly with SourceBoost - but when I attempt to run - I am infomed that the USB cable is not connected hence back to square 1.

The USB connection appears to be working according to the Device Manager.

Over to you blue leader

Cheersr

Hello Terry,

I know I've said this before but following this should allow the device to work without the USB not connected message appearing.

Turn off the power management feature by cllicking the start menu, right clicking computer, selecting properties, (Win XP click Hardware Tab), Click Device manager, Find the USB EB006 Multiprogrammer from the USB section and Double click, Go to the Power Management tab, untick the box that says allow Windows to power down this device, Click OK.

Let me know how you get on.

Hi Ben,
thanks for the suggestion but this was done previously and checked again but no success came of that.

However, the last thing I tried was to overwrite all files in the C4PICs3 directly with a copy from my old machine.

This was a success with the exception of the PIC launcher all is working fine. ( I will follow this up with you separately when I can check the problem out in more detail)

C4PICS fuctioning and communicatiing with the Dev board so I install Flowcode 3 and that is now fuctioning fine.

I would still like to understand why the system will not install directly.

Regards

Terry
