Matrix TSL supporting T-Levels – the exciting new qualification

T-Levels are a brand-new qualification that teach 16–19-year-olds a career rather than just a qualification.

Backed by the government, these qualifications are equivalent to three A-Levels, giving students who don’t want to stay at school after their GCSE’s another option.

T-Levels have been designed with businesses to make sure that students are coming away with the skills that they need to get hired. Those businesses along with many more, are taking on students as industry placements. This combines their classroom study with 45 days of hands-on experience, giving them a taste of life in the working world.

Students don’t need to go into a T-Level knowing what they want to be when they are older, but they can start learning about a broader industry to begin and then specialise in a certain area. At the same time, a T-Level gives the same UCAS points as three A-Levels so at the end of it, each child will have the same opportunity to go to university as everyone else.

The first set of T-Level students began their qualification in September 2021 and after a successful first year,  additional subjects including engineering began in September 2022.

“T-levels support our college’s vision to support all students to achieve their potential. The qualification enables students the option to explore and progress their chosen next steps; whether that’s employment, an apprenticeship or university. Not only do they achieve a respected qualification, but they also develop professional and personal skills that employers tell us they are looking for in young people.

Everyone involved in T-levels has really benefitted from them. Students have really enjoyed their courses, especially having the opportunity to develop in-depth knowledge and skills whilst also being able to transfer their learning into the workplace through their industry placement. Parents of these students have also told us how impressed they were by the range of destinations for their children.

From an employer perspective, the T-level students have provided valuable expertise, knowledge and insight into the organisations. All round, we’re really pleased with the results and feedback so far.” – Louise Rowley (Vice principle – Bridgewater & Taunton college)

Matrix is supporting T-Levels. We have mapped our products to the engineering T-Levels to make it easy for teachers to find out what they need to teach them (it’s all new to teachers too!) including products that make it enjoyable for students to learn about the subject with a hands-on approach. We are so passionate about T-Levels that our UK business development executive, Alfie Dobson, is now a T-Levels ambassador!
