Problems with PICkit2

Post by JohnWF »

I have problems with PPPv3 and flowcode 4. I am using Vista 64 bit ultimate.
PPV3 reports requiring License although latest version: however this has not happened for a while.
PPv3 says USB cable not connected although PICkit2 v2.61 access programmer and reads chip no problem.
I have updated to latest version of PP3 and Flowcode using Version 4.1.1.55 on installation of Flowcode it reports an error
could not register type library V4\components\PIC_SPI_MASTER.OCX

On checking USB connectios in Control pannel,Device manager nothing shows up for programmer, so can't change power management levels

I did find somthing on your forums about PPv3 but its so difficult to find again, I gave up.

However I would like to use flowcode 4.

Hello John

Are you using one of our EB006 boards? If so which version are you using? If you plug a USB cable into the board then are you getting anything appearing in Device manager?

If you are using the PICkit as the programmer then in Flowcode you need to change the compiler options in the chip menu to allow the PICkit to be used as your programming device. Please see this post for details.

I have set up PICkit2 as per your web site instructions, still does not apear in USB section in device manager, niether does your e-blocks programmer eb-006, with both of them I get the ping pong from windows and nothing shows up in USB section.
PIKkit2 v2.61 does read devices no problem however.

Hello

Ok I think there are a few crossed wires here.

Are you trying to program via the EB006 or the PICkit?

The PICkit displays itself in the Device manager as a HID device, the EB006 may appear in the USB section or the Custom Devices section depending on your OS.

Ok Again more crossed wires I think.

The PICkit should not need any changes in Device manager to allow it to work.

Flowcode is reporting the USB cable as being disconnected because it is looking for the EB006.

If you are trying to program with the PICkit via Flowcode then you need to change Flowcode's Chip -> Compiler options to match the settings shown here.

I have ensured that this is set up correctly for PICkit2 as per your web site and it still reports USB Cable not conneted.

Have now got problem with linker error code7 unable to find hex file.

as follows

Linker C:\PK2CMD_MTX\pk2cmd_mtx.exe
Params -ld "C:\Program Files (x86)\Matrix Multimedia\Flowcode V4\BoostC\lib" libc.pic16.lib flowcode.pic16.lib rand.pic16.lib float.pic16.lib "%f.obj" -t PIC%p -d "%d" -p "%f"

Programmer
Location C:\Program Files (x86)\Matrix Multimedia\Flowcode V4\Tools\PICkit2\pk2cmd.exe
Params -BC:\Program Files\Matrix Multimedia\Flowcode V4\Tools\PICkit2\ -PPIC%p -F%f.hex -M -A5 -R

extrenal prog ticked

Location C:\Program Files (x86)\Matrix Multimedia\Flowcode V4\Tools\PPP\PPPv3.exe
params -cs 2 -chip PIC%p -config

Ok I clicked restore defaults and all seems OK except for configure menu where the USB cable is reported as unplugged. compiling and sending programe to programmer now lights up the busy light as if programming.

Hello John

Ok if you are autodetecting in the configure menu then this will try and autodetect the chip on the EB006 board. PPP is a tool for our EB006 but it also has some handy configuration settings which is why we still use it for assigning configuration values.

If you are using PICkit then you will have to manually select the device in the configure menu of PPP, the autodetect function will not work with the PICkit.

If the busy light is lighting on the PICkit when you compile to the chip then it sounds like this is working correctly.

Hello John

Thats great thanks, all settings look correct to me.

The autodetect feature is for our hardware only (EB006, HP488) and does not work with the PICkit programmer.
