PICkit 2 and Flowcode

Post by Jan Lichtenbelt »

I tried to use Flowcode in connection with my PICKit 2. I followed the instructions of "support"
http://www.matrixmultimedia.com/support ... f=22&t=672

But I got the error meassage: "Launching the compiler...

C:\Program Files (x86)\Matrix Multimedia\Flowcode V4\Tools\PICkit2\pk2cmd.exe -v -t PIC16F690 "Test PICkit2.c"

PK2DeviceFile.dat device file not found."

This PK2DeviceFile.dat file is in the same directory and the pk2cmid.exe.

What to do?

Jan

Hiya Jan.
I followed the instructions of "support"

But I got the error message: "Launching the compiler...

C:\Program Files (x86)\Matrix Multimedia\Flowcode V4\Tools\PICkit2\pk2cmd.exe -v -t PIC16F690 "Test PICkit2.c"
That's a bit odd since when I compiled I got:
Launching the programmer...
C:\Program Files (x86)\Matrix Multimedia\Flowcode V4\Tools\PICkit2\pk2cmd.exe -BC:\Program Files (x86)\Matrix Multimedia\Flowcode V4\tools\PICkit2\ -PPIC18F4455 -F18F4455 LCD Port A.hex -m -A5 -R

Would you like to try this reg file. Worked 1st time for me.
Note: Windows 64Bit only since I have noticed you have a windows 64 Bit system.
Then If works, alter pickit2 codes to suit your own needs.
If you don't want to use the regfile, you can rigt click and select edit to check all the settings.

Also here are files and their sizes dates etc. You could see if they match yours.

Dear Medelec,

1. I did something wrong in the compiler settings. Now I introduced the changes from
http://www.matrixmultimedia.com/support ... f=22&t=672
again. But now I get an other error:
"Launching the programmer...

C:\Program Files\Matrix Multimedia\Flowcode V4\Tools\PICkit2\pk2cmd.exe -BC:\Program Files\Matrix Multimedia\Flowcode V4\Tools\PICkit2\ -PPIC16F690 -FTest PICkit2.hex -M -A5 -R

GetShortPathName error: De bewerking is voltooid.

FINISHED"

"Bewerking is voltooid" means "process finished. A pop-up window say to check the path and otions.

2. In the meanwhile I checked the registry contents and I found indeed an error. In both ConfigProgram and ProgSwitches the directory is wrong ...\Program Files... should be ...\Program Files (x86)... I will try this and keep you informed.

3. Now the regsitry settings are correct:
[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\matrixmm\FlowcodeV4\Compiler]
AllowProgConfig: Hex 1
Assembler: C:\Program Files (x86)\Matrix Multimedia\Flowcode V4\BoostC\boostlink.pic.exe
AssemblerSwitches : -ld "C:\Program Files (x86)\Matrix Multimedia\Flowcode V4\BoostC\lib" libc.pic16.lib flowcode.pic16.lib rand.pic16.lib float.pic16.lib "%f.obj" -t PIC%p -d "%d" -p "%f"
Compiler: C:\Program Files (x86)\Matrix Multimedia\Flowcode V4\BoostC\boostc.pic16.flowcode.exe
CompilreSwithes: -v -t PIC%p "%f.c"
Configprogram: C:\Program Files (x86)\Matrix Multimedia\Flowcode V4\Tools\PPP\PPPv3.exe
ProgConfig: -cs 2 -chip PIC%p –config
Programmer: C:\Program Files (x86)\Matrix Multimedia\Flowcode V4\Tools\PICkit2\pk2cmd.exe
ProgSwitches: -BC:\Program Files (x86)\Matrix Multimedia\Flowcode V4\Tools\PICkit2\ -PPIC%p -F%f.hex -M -A5 –R
Viewer: C:\Windows\notepad.exe
ViewerSwitches:

But now the PICKit 2 operationg system V0.00.00 has to be OS V2.32.00 or later. I try to get that fixed. (to be continued)

Kind regards

Jan

It could be that the info at:
http://www.matrixmultimedia.com/support ... f=22&t=672
Is for 32bit windows only?
In the first post you showed path as:
C:\Program Files (x86) = 64bit windows.
In your last post you are showing path as:
C:\Program Files = windows 32bit
It is best to use browse in your Compiler options to select the the exe file.
E.g use browse to find pk2cmd.exe rather then copy and pasting.

I tried in cmd to get the update with .... PICKit2 -D. But that failed.

How do I get the OS V2.32.00 or later?

Goto google and type pickit2
Click on link for:
PICkit 2 Development Programmer/Debugger
I tried to paste link, but it did not work.

try this

http://www.microchip.com/stellent/idcpl ... e=en023805

I installed the PICkit2 V2 (in directory .../Tools/PICkit2 V2). Executing this program askes directly to update the OS.

Now the flowcode works correctly. That means no errors, see attachment. However, if the micocontroller is working correctly is not clear. I tried to get the ob-board LED's to go on/off. But without succes until now.

Regards

Jan

Yep that's the link I'd tried to paste on here and my browser just showed a blank page.
Although, I could access it via google.

The PICKit2 V2 can be downloaded with:
http://ww1.microchip.com/downloads/en/D ... up%20A.zip

The microcontroller works now correct (after setting OSCCON =0x70; // 8 MHz).

Remark: The PICkit 2 controller has the possibility to put +5Volt on the board by means of the PICkit 2 program. If one uses the Flowcode and EB006 one has to put manually the power on the board.

Medelec thanks a lot.

With kind regards,

Jan Lichtenbelt
