RS232 Communications

Hi Guys

I am a bit stumped in my project i have 2 setup routines one to set up master unit and one to set up slave unit. I am using a Pic16F877 (in the master unit)to send data to a Pic16F886 (in the slave unit)then sending the data back to the Pic16F877 and displaying it on a LCD display to see if the data is correct then i go out of the setup routine.
In VNet everything works like a dream but in real life i can only send the data and set up the slave unit i am unable to read the data back. I have checked if the data is being sent back on RX pin pin 26 of the Pic16F877 and i get data there. Now i am not sure why this is happening maybe a timing issue but don't know where to look. Can someone please help if need be I will upload my programs.
