USB HID and USB Serial on same device

Post by Gary Freegard »

Hi
I would like to know if it is possible to have the option to use USB HID and USB Serial on an ECIO when it is running?

What I’m trying to do is use an ECIO as a keyboard, in the first instance, so that it can control our existing software. In the second instance I would like to have it working as a USB serial device, for configuration or for use with other software. These would not occur at the same time.

I have tried adding the two components but on compile there is a problem due to common defines, so is there another way, in software?

Another way for me to do this would be to use an USB to serial chip, and some sort of signal switch which would be controlled by the ECIO, this would enable me to use both USB HID and USB Serial but its not so nice

Thanks
Gary

Hi GAry,

Multiple enumerations are possible on the USB devices, however this was never designed into the Flowcode USB components so they will currently not work together. Re-engineering the code to allow for multiple enumerations is not a straightforward task but is doable if you are familiar with C code.

Hi Ben

Thanks for the heads up. I think the re-engineering may have to wait for awhile.
