PIC18F25K22 on PPP.EXE

Post by Thomas Henry »

Hello all,

Has anyone here ever had success writing up the configuration entry for PPP.EXE to program the PIC18F25K22? If so, would you consider sharing it with us? Or perhaps there's an inherent limitation in the software that won't permit it in any event. Even that would be useful news.

Many thanks,

Thomas Henry

Hi Thomas

Not sure what you've tried but this may help , 3 pics are attached, firstly set your programmer options tick the use external program options to set configuration options , as in pic1
1.jpg
1.jpg (90.64 KiB) Viewed 4069 times
then , click on build, project options, general options, tick configure chip, click configure chip as in pic2
2.jpg
2.jpg (65.17 KiB) Viewed 4069 times
then set the configuration options as you require (see pic3) finally click ok then when you compile to chip it should be ok

i would make sure the following are disabled, extended instruction set enable bit and watchdog timer, then set the other options as you require hth , if the above doesnt help can you give more info on what is happening or not happening as it will be a bit easier for people to help

Hello Dazz,

Many thanks for your speedy reply, and especially for taking the time to prepare screen shots. I'll have to chew on what you've provided a bit.

I probably should have been a bit more specific in my question. I am using the HP488-003 board in conjunction with PPP and the Matrix Multimedia Assembly Language course. Generally, I do my programming from within TextPad, having that program send the source to MPASM, and thence the hex code to PPP, and thence from there to the PIC on the HP488.

I see there are a number of PPP_config_data files associated with PPP that contain information about the various PIC chips, but not unfortunately the PIC18F25K22. So my more specific question is whether it is possible to add said information to one of those files and thus have it come up handily inside of PPP.

I'm using version 3.11.15.30 of PPP, but see there is a more extensive version 3.12.16.31. Unfortunately, it seems to be missing an installer, and when I try to run it directly I get a Windows error box: "Failed to get data for 'Config8L'." I'm probably missing something obvious and will keep cranking on it.

But, anyway, my real question was whether the config files in PPP could be updated to include the PIC18F25K22 one way or another.

Thanks again for your input,

Thomas Henry

Hello Thomas,

The K22 devices still pose a problem for us, and so our PPP software is still unable to reprogram these devices. The later version of PPP still does not reprogram these devices (although it provides a convenient way of setting the configuration for those who have an alternative programmer).

We do not have a separate install of this newer PPP version. But you should be able to run it directly. The message you get can be avoided using the instructions here:

I hope this helps.

Regards,
Steve.
