external memory for PIC18F8xxx devices

Post by Jordy101091 »

Hi all just a quick question,

Is it possible to use external memory for PIC devices in flowcode?
If not is it a option to build this in to flowcode version 6 or something.

Hi Jordy,

Ill certainly add it of the list of things to consider for v6, we have some massive changes planned for v6 so we cant promise things will go in at this stage!

Hello,

The current SPI and I2C components should allow you compatibility with a large selection of external memory devices.

Our EB013 board has a SPI memory chip so you can use the datasheet for this board to see the schematic. There are also Flowcode macros to use this memory available as part of the SPI legacy component.

Hi Ben,
When I saw this post I was going to say something as you said and also going to give him some examples using 24c64 device..But I think Jordy is interested for something more as the datasheet he linked says..
The PIC18F8XXX subset is made up of 80-pin parts that further extend the capabilities by providing access to external memory devices. Through the addition of external memory devices, an 8-bit application has the power to utilize unprecedented amounts of code or data; up to 2 Mbytes for an 8-bit microcontroller!
:!:
This uses External Memory Interface (EMI) for this bulk amount of data/code usage..
