Slow compilation with Flowcode v3

Post by Steve »

Is anyone experiencing very long compilation times (more than 1 minute for a simple program) with Flowcode v3?

We are experiencing this problem on one of the PC's here. Oddly enough, it is the newest PC (3GHz, 1Gb RAM). Another strange thing is that continually right-clicking on the compiler messages window speeds up the compilation drastically (several minutes becomes 3 seconds!).

We're looking into this at the moment, but hopefully it is isolated to this one PC.

If anyone else is having similar problems, please get in touch so we can determine how widespread this problem is.

Hi Steve,

I have noticed that on the download of V3 simple compiles seem to drag on, I have not timed it but I shall and let you know, I find the precompiler seems to take most of the time up.

I have a small flow diagram that took 2mins 35secs to compile, It sits with the preprocessor for that amount of time then quickly generates the report.

Thanks for the info, Ian.

If you right-click the "compiler messages" window many times while the compilation is happening, does it speed up the compilation time?

Also, what's your processor speed and RAM size?

Hi,

I have just downloaded and compiled one of the examples, EX13, and it takes around 2 minutes to compile to ASM... As you suggested if you mouse click, then the time drops to a few seconds. Im on a 2.4GHz processor and a Gig of memory...

Do you know if todays release date will still be valid for V3 ... Im keen to register..!

Regards

Hello Bob,

Thanks for letting me know about the problem - I'll continue looking into it to see if it can be fixed. In the meantime, please use the "click" method to speed it up.

As for a V3 release, I am checking the final CD image now and it should be sent off for manufacture first thing tomorrow morning.

I will also update the online demo tomorrow.

Hi Steve,

Will the version posted tomorrow be able to be registered online so as to give full functionality, or do I need to wait for the actual CD to be ready?

Cheers
Bob

Hi Bob,

We should be able to sort this out before the actual CD is made. Contact me via email and I'll arrange it.

Good news...

I've fixed this "extremely slow compile time unless you click the window" bug, but I don't have the time to update the installation on the web.

If you are experiencing this extreme slow compile error, please contact me and I will issue you with a "patch" on Monday.
