Simple question regarding ICSP

Post by christoph »

Hi all,

I am needing to 'In-circuit-serial-programme' (ICSP) a surface mounted PIC16F88 on a small PCB (via the Matrix Multimedia HP488-00-3 development board). I know it is a fact that RB6 and RB7 (clock and data pins respectively on that PIC) need to be isolated from the rest of the PCB circuit during programming but as I am not using those pins they each have a 10k pull down to GND. Presumeably I can leave those resistors in place?
Of course, I also have the required pull down resistor (10k used) at pin 9 (PGM) and have isolated pin 4 (MCLR/Vpp) physically from the rest of my circuit to avoid any possibility of the 13volts causing a problem.

Would just like confirmation resitors can be left.

Cheers,

Chris

Hi Chris,

The pull down resistors should be ok. If you are creating a cable to go from the HP488 to your circuit then remember to keep the cable as short as possible to avoid any problems due to noise or transmission line type reflections.

Many thanks Benj,

Lead is about 4" but if I get any interaction, I will split the cores or use sheilded as appropriate.

Cheers,
Chris
