EB006 00 8 Programming Problems

Post by Dr T JONES »

We are having multiple problems with the two EB006 00 8 boards that we have, when we are trying to programme PIC chips 16F628A, 16F88 and 16F84 mainly.

Multitude of problems from can not detect the chips, 'programming failed', 'no usb cable detected' even when it is connected.

The confusing thing is that sometimes initially programming works fine then as programmes are adjusted it just starts giving the messages above. We have tried changing the chips but this sometimes works sometimes not, very frustrating for the students.

Have tried programming in RC mode then back to XT mode which sometimes helps sometimes no effect.

Whats going wrong?

Hello Dr Jones,

I'm surprised to hear you have been having problems with the EB006 version 8 boards as we have been selling them for some time without any major issues being reported.

Here are a few things I can think of.

1) The USB not connected message might appear if:
a) the USB drivers are not installed
b) the board is connected but unpowered
c) there is another version of the PPP software running on the computer and claiming the USB connection

2) The programming failed config1 config2 could be one of the following:
a) the hex file being programmed was compiled for a different target chip then the one being used
b) PPP might be setup for the wrong device, if using PPP on it's own then make sure to autodetect the chip first to ensure your parsing the hex file correctly

3) 16F84 chips do not have an autodetect function so you will have to manually select this chip if your using PPP standalone.

12V power supplies should be more than enough and you should be able to program devices using the USB supply alone with the power selection jumper in the USB position.

Let me know how your getting on.

Luckily we have two EB006 008 boards at the one site in college and have found one works fine but the other can not detect any chips and when you try and programme gives config 1 error. When i change the board to the other EB006 008 using the same chip and programme it works fine.

I will call the company so i can send this back to fix

Hello!

I also have problems with EB006-20-8 board.
It worked fine but now I get following error:

Bad response from device

Board Type: EB006 v5-8
IsOpen : no
ID from Board: -1
Chip CmdLine:
USB Hardware: USB\VID_12BF&PID_0020&REV_0302
USB Description: Matrix PICmicro Programmer
ADCval: 0.000000
Location: mLoaderv3Dlg.cpp @ 1598 (CmLoaderv3Dlg::OnBnClickedBtnReceiveFile)

I plugged programmer into other USB ports on PC as advised in forum also I reinstalled USB drivers but no success. The chip selected is 16f88.

Have any suggestions what to do?

Hello,

Looks like mLoader can see the device but cannot connect to the USB handle, make sure your not running another version of the mLoader software or the PPP software. Might be worth unplugging and replugging the board to see if this makes any difference.

This happend during programming of 16f88 when thesting software...
Also I tried on other PCs, but the result is the same.
Do you think my EB006 is damaged?

Hello,

The PPP software will work with the v8 board so you could give this a try.

The latest version of the mLoader software can be found here.

http://www.matrixmultimedia.com/resourc ... .php?id=12

If neither is working then maybe worth double checking the driver is installed correctly, this can be found here.

Out of interest are you using Flowcode or another programming language?

Let me know how your getting on.

I tested the software and it works with PPPv3 Programer without a problem.

Driver and Mloader have no efect - same problem.

I found out the problem.

This happens in certain combination of configuration bits.
After IC is erased with PPP v3 it works normally with MLoader...
